The Christmas charity concert, which is dedicated to the restoration of the church organ built in 1912, will gather and unite well-known artists in Latvia, who have prepared a repertoire for the audience, starting with a spectrum of compositions created in the classical manner, up to performances of opus by well-known composers.
In the concert program, the audience will be able to hear the compositions of the great Latvian composer Uldas Markhilēvičs. The composer has included in the program both a fleeting lightness that will be heard in the manner of vocalization, as well as compositions that will be charmed by the captivating voice of the soloist Rēzia Kalniņa.
The program will also include works created in a classical manner, prepared for the audience by the young Latvian composer Jēkabs Tutiņš. Their compositions will be performed under the direction of chamber orchestra, conducted by Sv. Albert Roman Catholic Church conductor Ineta Gedroica. The composer admits that something special has been prepared for the listeners of this concert, two premieres of his compositions will be performed this evening.
Praising the charm of the evening, the fundamental narration of voices will be led by none other than the outstanding chief conductor of the Latvian Song Festival, Māra Marnauza. Under the direction of the conductor, the voices of the chamber choir "Fortius", the choir of St. Albert's Roman Catholic Church and soloists - Gita Rebekas Dirveikas and Aldis Erglis will sound in the church, giving the evening a soulful sound.
However, this coming together is more than just the enjoyment of musical artistry; it is a call to action so that St. Albert's Roman Catholic Church's historic organ would regain its former glory. The purpose of the concert is to raise funds for the restoration of this iconic instrument.
Concertgoers will have the opportunity to make a direct contribution to the cause. A fundraiser will be held on site, giving concertgoers the opportunity to support this restoration initiative and become part of the church's musical legacy.
Mark December 17 at 15.00, and we will meet at this musical evening where we will witness the making of history.
Riga St. Albert's Roman Catholic Church was consecrated on November 29, 1903, making it the largest Catholic church in Latvia until now - the church can hold up to 2,500 people. In 1912, work began on the construction of the church organ - a 30-voice instrument with 2 manuals and a pedal, pneumatic and such auxiliary devices as free combinations, ready combinations and a crescendo roller. Emil Martin's 30-voice instrument is still playing in this congregation and is in its original condition without modifications, it has not been damaged either during the war or by other masters. However, the parts of the organ have worn out over time and their wooden structures have been damaged by worms. In general, the expected restoration costs are estimated at around 96,000 EUR.
Thanks to everyone who came to this charity concert. Together, we have taken a small but very important step towards the restoration of the church organ. During the concert, 2770.85 EUR were donated.
